Interview with Romaissa Hancar, V.I.E currently based in Singapore

What has your V.I.E experience in Singapore brought you — both professionally and personally?

My V.I.E in Singapore has been a deeply enriching experience on many levels.

Professionally, It  has been a great opportunity to contribute to high-impact HR projects while discovering new ways of working in a dynamic, international and multicultural environment.

Personally, it has brought me a lot of resilience. Living and working abroad has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop adaptability and open-mindedness. It’s a unique experience that teaches you to embrace differences, build connections beyond borders, and grow both as a person and as a professional.

How does your mission contribute to Soitec’s development in Singapore and in the region?

My mission contributes by supporting the alignment and harmonization of HR processes between the local entity and Soitec’s global standards. By contributing to more consistent and structured HR processes, I’m helping build a strong foundation for talent development and employee engagement - two essential levers for sustainable growth  in Singapore and across Asia.

What has been your biggest challenge since starting your V.I.E — and how did you overcome it?

One of the key challenges was adapting to a new professional environment and different ways of working. I took the time to observe, listen, and gradually adjust my approach to be more in tune with the local context. This experience taught me the importance of flexibility, patience, and cultural awareness in an international setting.

If you had to sum up your V.I.E adventure in Singapore with one word or expression, what would it be — and why?

“Growth.” Because this experience has pushed me to grow both professionally and personally by adapting to a new environment, taking on new responsibilities, and stepping out of my comfort zone every day.
